NCO 7th and 8th grade students participated in the 2018 Annual History Fair on Wednesday, Feb. 28 and 15 earned blue ribbons for their efforts.
A wide variety of topics relating to Illinois history were researched and organized by students. The kids then displayed their projects for parents, grandparents, and fellow students to view and learn more about the state they live in.
This year’s history teacher, Mr. Dustin Murray, who took the place of Dean of Students, Mr. Jimmy Foster, was happy to continue the tradition of the NCO History Fair. He feels it is a great opportunity for the school and students.
“I’m so impressed with these kids and their work,” Murray stated. “This is my first year doing the History Fair and I’ve learned a lot from my students.”
All students who received a blue ribbon for their hard work will advance to the Regional History Expo at SIU Carbondale on March 24. in the Regional History Fair with a chance to take their project to Springfield in the state wide competition on May 3. Those receiving blue ribbons were: Jerra Barton, Amanda Bradley, Morgan Bryant, Hollan Everett, Brooke Healy, Joel Hortin, Taylor Johnson, Ebany Jolley, Preston Long, Ben Mendoza, Braden Mendoza, Colby Prather, Miah Scroggins, Cord Tucker and Bree Vollman.
