The Norris City-Omaha-Enfield Fighting Cardinal basketball team ventured to Bluford Friday night to take on the Webber Township Trojans in a non conference match up. The Fighting Cardinals came into the contest being victors of their prior two games, with hopes of extending this streak.
When the game started, it appeared that NCOE was well on their way to keeping this streak alive as they jumped out to the 12-2 lead following one quarter of play. Although the Fighting Cardinals would manage to put up 15 points of their own, the Trojans cut into the NCOE lead to only trail by seven points with just one quarter of play remaining. This fourth and final stanza would witness the Trojans narrowing the Fighting Cardinal lead to just five points (35-30), but NCOE would remain strong and convert at the charity stripe to pull off the 45-35 road win.
Brandon Skaggs led the way for NCOE (9-12) with 17 points while Jack Riggs added seven points, Ty Money six points, CJ Richardson five points, Joe Melton four points, and three points a piece from Jaden Barton and Colton O’Neal.
The Junior Varsity game started out very tight with the Fighting Cardinals clinging to a one point lead, 9-8, following one quarter of play. NCOE would tighten their defense up in the second quarter to hold the Trojans to just four points. This, on top of scoring eight points of their own, helped NCOE extend their lead to five points as halftime arrived.
Following intermission, the Fighting Cardinals appeared to have their offense running on all cylinders as they erupted to outscore Webber 14-5 and push their lead to 31-17 heading into the final frame of action. This fourth and final stanza was where the Trojans would come alive and go on to outscore NCOE by five points, but this was not enough as the Fighting Cardinals would walk away with the 38-29 victory.
