Announcing “We have the best Mexican Food,” El Mexicano at 116 S. Division St. in Norris City opened its doors this past week to people waiting in line to try out the new place. On Friday, the school let the teenagers out early and the place was packed with barely standing room only.
With a full menu offering familiar names of south-of-the border fare, the only thing on the menu not being served yet is the alcoholic drinks, as El Mexicano has not yet received its liquor license. The menu currently contains the drink menu.
The lunch menu looks to be quite economical and lunch portions are big. El Mexicano boasts a whole page of specialties of the house dishes, signature dishes of their own, along with a seafood menu, steaks and vegetarian dishes, and a kids menu. Owner Marcy said the signature dishes are from her mother’s recipes.
Salvador and Marcy Lopez-Galvan own and operate two other El Mexicano Restaurants as well as the Norris City El Mexicano. One of them is in Fairfield at 5 Williamson Dr. Ste. 200 since 2006 and one is in Morgantown Ky. which has been open since 2001. Another El Mexicano in Kankakee, Ill. is run by Marcy’s sister.
El Mexicano’s hours at 116 S. Division St. will be 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sundays and weekdays, and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. The phone number is 378-3800.
