The Norris City Quilt Guild met on Thursday, May 2 with 29 members and one guest present. Group #3 provided the meal. Linda Downen joined the guild on this evening. Karen Rapp handed out various size patterns for cow projects for the 2019 Norris City “Dairy Days” project. Karen also presented a cow mini quilt she made. The theme for the Dairy Days quilt show will be cows or cardinal projects. UFOs or (Unfinished Objects) were completed by 18 ladies. Debbie Phillips won the monthly UFO drawing.
Over 25 different projects were shared. Annette Jones gave a brief tutorial on how to repair quilts. Shaunna Scott shared a wonderful giraffe appliqued baby quilt and a fallthemed cheater panel with pieced stars. Karen Lewis displayed two quilts she made for her grand-daughter, including a gymnastics quilt and a pink and purple unicorn quilt. Helen Ray- Cooper shared a mini quilt and a lovely large “Hunter’s Star” pieced quilt. Nora Stewart exhibited an applique quilt with each block representing a woman of color wearing a turban. The quilt was very intricate, as facial features were embroidered or appliqued while each woman wore a pieced turban and golden embroidered earring. Beth Persinger presented some of her long-arm professionally quilted projects. Beth quilted Linda Downen’s “2 inch block quilt” and her “four patch.” Jackie Frey revealed the large paperpieced “Storm at Sea” project she made. This particular quilt was part of a class previously taught at a guild meeting and was a challenging project. Dorotha Thackrey showed her “Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs” twin-size quilt. Erin Pennington presented her gingham quilt called “Apple Dumpling,” copyrighted by the company Sew Emma.
Other quilts displayed include Estelle Aydelott’s “Butterflies & Blossoms,” Janie Delap’s “Black and White Quilt.” Tena McElroy displayed two quilts, including an “Optical Illusion” and a t-shirt quilt that consisted of 58 shirts. Jan York showed a beautiful lavender and yellow lap quilt. Connie Bingman revealed a handmade quilted purse. Aleta Keern displayed her pieced candle mats. Five baby quilts were donated, four by Nora Stewart and one by Annette Jones.

The next meeting of the Norris City Quilters Guild will be held on June 6. Group # 4 is in charge of food. The July meeting will be held on Thursday June 27, due to the 4th of July holiday.
