Lady Cardinals win 2 out of 3 in Fairfield weekend Tournament

September 12, 2019 by Becky Weaver

Junior Lady Cards Drop First Tourney Game to Eventual Champs

Saturday morning found the NCOE Lady Cardinal softball team traveling to Fairfield to take part in the Lady Colts 12 team tournament.  NCOE was placed in the White Pool where they were set to play Jasper County-Newton, Cisne, and Jasper-Geff.  First for NCOE would be Jasper County-Newton.  Unaware of what this team was like, it did not take NCOE long to find that their first game would be against the eventual tournament champions.  Although the Lady Cardinals battled hard, the much larger and stronger Newton team proved to be too much for NCOE as they fell by the final score of 14-3.

Hise Fans 14 in Victory

September 12, 2019 by Becky Weaver

Facing their third game in as many days, the Lady Cardinal softball team was hoping to collect yet another conference victory when they ventured to Hardin County Thursday afternoon.  This contest was a pitcher's duel as neither team could score a run through the first two innings of play.  This scoreless streak would be broken in the third inning when the Lady Cardinals broke through for three runs to claim the 3-0 lead.  They would add one run in the top of the fourth inning to extend their advantage to 4-0 but Hardin County would push their first run across the plate in the bottom of the fourth inning to narrow the NCOE lead to just three runs.  The Lady Cardinals would manage to score one more run in the sixth inning along with four more in the top of the seventh while holding the Lady Cougars scoreless the remainder of the way to walk away with the 9-1 victory.

Trinity Boyd, Mercedes Hise, Mallory Hobbs, Mallory Fulkerson, Sydnee Sauls, and Elise Hortin each collected one hit in the game to lead the NCOE offense.  Hise led the RBI column with three followed by Avery Black, Sauls, and Lauren Poole with one each.  Those crossing the plate for the 7-2 Lady Cardinals were Trinity Boyd (2), Mercedes Hise (2), Carmyn Daugherty (1), Mallory Hobbs (1), Mallory Fulkerson (1), and Lauren Poole (1).

Starting pitcher, Mercedes Hise, went the distance for NCOE in the circle allowing one run on just one hit while collecting 14 strikeouts.

Lady Cardinals Too Much for Lady Pirates

September 12, 2019 by Becky Weaver

The Norris City-Omaha-Enfield Lady Cardinal softball team kicked off a busy week by playing host to the Pope County Lady Pirates.  Following one inning of play the Lady Cardinals found themselves holding the early 2-1 lead.  The Lady Cardinals add five more runs to this to stretch their advantage to 7-1 heading into the third inning of play.  At this time, NCOE would surrender another run to the Lady Pirates but that would be all they would allow as they added three more runs of their own in the fourth inning and two more in the fifth to short game Pope County by the final score of 12-2.

Avery Black knocked out two hits in the game to lead the way for NCOE followed by Alexis Rush, Mallory Hobbs, and Trinity Boyd with one hit a piece.  Mercedes Hise led the RBI column with two while Black, Hobbs, Anyston Barton, and Alivia Zenner each added one.  Those scoring runs for the Lady Cardinals (5-2) were Lauren Poole (3), Mercedes Hise (2), Avery Black (2), Alexis Rush (1), Sydnee Sauls (1), Trinity Boyd (1), and Claira Powell (1).

Mercedes Hise went the distance for the Lady Cardinals as she allowed two runs (one earned) on just three hits while striking out eight.
