Norman R. Landers, 54, of Carni was declared deceased on Sunday, September 11, after the vehicle he was driving went off the road on Hwy 1 around 2:09 p.m. in Indian Creek Township. Landers was was traveling north with several passengers on IL Hwy 1. Passenger Lora Sullivan, 64 of Carmi, stated that just south of CR 550 E., Landers began drifting into the oncoming lane. She said she observed him to be stiff and having difficulty keeping the vehicle on the road. Sullivan said the vehicle went off the road, hitting signs and trees before finally coming to a stop. Landers suffered fatal injuries. Sullivan was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries. The vehicle traveled 400 feet after leaving the road before it came to a rest. The other passengers were not named in the report.
