The Fighting Cardinal baseball team returned to Greater Egyptian Conference play Thursday afternoon when they played host to the Gallatin County Hawks. The Hawks were the lone conference loss the Fighting Cardinals had faced thus far this season, and they were hoping to avenge this earlier.
Action did not start out as NCOE had hoped when they quickly fell behind Gallatin County 5-0 following the first two innings of at bats by the Hawks. NCOE did manage to plate their first run in the bottom of the second inning to narrow the Hawk lead to just four runs but another run in the top of the third inning by Gallatin County stretched the deficit back out to five runs heading into the fourth inning. NCOE did manage to score another run in the bottom of the fourth inning to inch back into the game, but the Hawk defense shut the Fighting Cardinals down the remainder of the game as they handed NCOE the 8-2 loss.
Houston Money, Trey Simmons, and Brandon Skaggs led the Fighting Cardinals with two hits each followed by one hit a piece from CJ Richardson, Jack Riggs, Nathaniel Wilson, and Jacob Richerson. Money collected the lone RBI on the day while Simmons and Lucas Browning each scored a run for NCOE.
Ty Lane was the starting pitcher for NCOE (6-4 overall 4-2 GEC). Lane hurled the first six innings allowing eight runs (seven earned) on eight hits and striking out two. Houston Money came in to relieve Lane and fired the final inning allowing no runs on no hits.
