Today, some elected officials think that the solution to violence in our society is to restrict and punish law-abiding citizens and take guns away from lawabiding citizens. This is, in fact, making law-breakers of these elected legislators and of those trying to pass these gun restrictions, in a violation of the constitution.
You wouldn’t hear of these same legislators making the ownership of automobiles illegal and make everyone ride bicycles just because a few drunk drivers and speeders caused some fatal accidents with a vehicle. It is the same principle.
These legislators are playing into the hands of the criminals who favor gun restrictions, so that law abiding citizens cannot defend their homes and businesses.
One of the goals of the Communist, Socialist, National Democratic (Nazi), and Fascist parties is to disarm all citizens so they can take over governments without the populace being able to resist with arms, as they would be the ones with the arms. Now the majority of the Socialists and Communists have formed a new political party in the United States called the Democratic Socialists of America. However, their members are not running for office under their own party’s label, but on the ballot of one of the established parties in the United States to fool people especially those who vote a straight party ticket.
People come to the United States to get away from political or religious persecution and to better themselves and have more freedom.
I have talked to and interviewed many people who have fled countries where they did not have freedom. One man who fled Communist Russia told me about how his parents and younger brother had been killed by the Communists. He traveled at night to flee Russia while hiding during the day. He cried while telling me his story.
Another man and his father, who was a doctor, fled Castro’s Communist Regime in Cuba. I had a mathematics professor in college whose family fled North Korea where his father had been a newspaper editor. I have also talked to others who fled other Communist, Socialist, Fascist or Democratic Socialist (Nazi) regimes.
In 1964, I ate breakfast at a restaurant in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. The owner of the restaurant sat with me and told me his story while I ate. He was from Hungary, and when the Communists took over in Hungary, they took all of the guns away from the citizens. Russia didn’t think the Hungarian Communist leader was strict enough so they came into Hungary with troops and took over the country. This man and his two sons were in the Hungarian Resistance. A picture was taken, which I have seen, as the Hungarian Resistance, armed only with pitchforks and axe handles, tried to stop the Russian troops armed with guns and backed up by tanks. This man and his two sons can be clearly identified in the picture. They fled to Canada, and around 200,000 Hungarians also fled their country and many more were either imprisoned or executed.
I have mentioned before that six of my ancestors fought in the American Army during the Revolutionary War. That’s what I know so far, and one of them was killed in battle. One ancestor, my great, great, great grandfather Thomas Oliver from Virginia had eleven children. Of those, five of them came to what is now White and Hamilton Counties and settled here. My first ancestors came to this area of Illinois in 1814, before Illinois became a State, and the last came in 1854.
When Illinois became a State in 1818, Southern Illinois was Illinois with the first capital, Kaskaskia, and the second capital, Vandalia, both being in Southern Illinois. The Chicago and northern Illinois area, which were supposed to be part of Wisconsin, were occupied, for the most part, by hostile Indian tribes. When the Black Hawk War broke out, volunteers from this area, led by Captain Daniel Powell, went to that area and won the war in 1833. Two of my great, great, grandfathers, John DeLap and Thomas Vineyard, were in this group which opened up this northern area to settlement and growth.
Now Illinois legislature members from the Chicago area are trying to take guns away from us, even though it violates the Constitution of the United States.
Recently in the Montreal, Quebec, Canada area, Muslims tried to get pork removed from the school lunch menu because it offended Muslims. They were told they came to Canada and that it was not for Canadians to change their lifestyles to suit the newcomers, but that if they didn’t like the Canadian way, there were 57 Muslim countries they could immigrate to.
The same holds true here in Illinois. If these Chicago area legislatures don’t like it here, they can go to a gun control country like Cuba, China, Russia, and so forth, and see how they like it there.
We were here first, so it is up to them to abide by our way of life, not for us to abide by theirs.
