This year the 2nd and 3rd grades at NCO cosponsored with Michael Hillegas Chapter/NSDAR and Congressman’s Shimkus Office to participate in “Valentines for Heroes.” Four teachers, Ms. Barton, Ms. Hall, Ms. Eisenhauer and Mrs Smith, along with 81 students, gathered in the NCO gym, Monday Jan 29, for a presentation about the military. Vice-Regent and Veterans Chairman Shelia Albright gave a small presentation on the military; Flag Chairman, Candy Evans gave each child a flag, and member Dolores Payne visited with the children and thanked them for their beautiful valentines. Many of these kids have family or friends in the military and were glad to be a part of this program.
For anyone else who would like to participate, drop Valentines off at the Norris City Library until Friday Feb. 9, where they will be picked up by the chapter and taken to Congressman Shimkus’ office to be distributed. The rules are the same as last year: Do not put any thing on outside of envelope, do not seal envelope, write a few lines of gratitude and only put first name.
Several churches and other organizations have participated, and you can write down your organization, but not any town or state (you can put first name of child). Thank you so much. The Michael Hillegas Chapter of the DAR have been so honored to be part of this program and as always, Norris City has risen to the occasion.
